Mortal Kombat 2 trailer revealed at IGN Fan Fest 2026

In the footage, Karl Urban’s aging Johnny Cage does his best to spice things up with one-liners and trademark sarcasm, trying to inject some energy into what otherwise looks like a rather lifeless continuation of the rebooted film adaptation of the legendary fighting game franchise.

The story of the sequel revolves around the decisive battle of the champions of Earthrealm, now joined by Johnny Cage himself. Together they must stop Shao Kahn and put an end to his rule, which threatens the very existence of Earthrealm.

Several actors return to their roles, including Josh Lawson (Kano), Lewis Tan (Cole Young), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), Mehcad Brooks (Jax), Tadanobu Asano (Raiden), Chin Han (Shang Tsung) and Hiroyuki Sanada (Scorpion).

New additions to the cast include Karl Urban (Johnny Cage), Adeline Rudolph (Kitana), Tati Gabrielle (Jade) and Damon Herriman (Quan Chi).

The film is once again directed by Simon McQuoid, with the screenplay written by Jeremy Slater.

International release of Mortal Kombat 2 is scheduled for May 6, 2026, two days earlier than its North American premiere.
